YDF launches Manual for Disability Inclusion
Pretoria, 30 October 2012. After months
of work, all those present at the first Youth Development through Football
Workshop for Disability Inclusion were excited to cast an eye over the newly
published short module. Hot off the press, the ‘YDF Manual for Disability
Inclusion’ has been developed to
provide coaches with the social
model of disability, information about different physical and intellectual
impairments, as well as with the knowledge on how to involve people with

3rd UNOSDP Youth Leadership Camp successfully concluded
Pretoria, 17 October 2012. On
25 September, the 3rd UNOSDP Youth Leadership Camp kicked off at the
Swiss Federal Office of Sport in Macolin/ Magglingen with 26 participants from
16 countries in sub-Saharan Africa and the Palestinian territories. After the
successful camps held in Qatar and Germany, this camp again provided the youth
access to training on how sport can be better used to effect positive change in
their communities.

COP17 follow-up events attract attention
Pretoria, 03 September 2012. The
spirit of COP17 and YDF's Green Goal! event,
which took place at the Conference of Parties in December 2011 in Durban, was
strongly felt at follow-up events in Pretoria (15 August), Soweto (22 August)
and Makhado (28 August). Youth leaders from YDF partner Altus Sport demonstrated
how to integrate environmental awareness - as it is explained in the YDF Manual
for Environmental Awareness - into football sessions with school children who

Best practices from African partner countries
Pretoria, 22 August 2012. With
YDF about to close Phase 1 of the project, it was time to invite all partners
from the 9 African countries where the project has been active in the last five
years, to a joint reflection workshop. A group of 13 participants and members
of the YDF team met at Kwalata Game Ranch, north of Pretoria, to share their

'Moving The Goalposts' achieves great success
Kenya, 10 August 2012. This year, Moving The Goalposts (MTG) celebrates
its 10th anniversary and looks back on fantastic achievements in tackling
gender disparities through the use of football. In 2012, MTG entered into a
fruitful partnership with the YDF project to offer girls new prospects by using

Partners in Kenya look back
Pretoria, 04 August 2012. Against the backdrop of the end of YDF's first project
phase, the Mathare Youth Sports Association (MYSA) and
Vijana
Amani Pamoja (VAP) invited trained coaches, managers, instructors and
teachers from various organisations, community centres and schools to share

Training a new Generation of Role Models

sports clubs and organisations an exciting opportunity to attend a
Training of Trainers (TOT) course in the Youth Development through
Football (YDF) Toolkit, developed by The German Development
Cooperation (GIZ) and endorsed by South African Football Association

DOSB and GIZ extending their collaboration
Pretoria, 18 July 2012.
The
Deutsche Olympische Sportbund (DOSB) and the Deutsche Gesellschaft für
Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH will network their respective knowledge
and strengthen their cooperation in the future. To this end, GIZ Board Member
Adolf Kloke-Lesch signed a general agreement with DOSB in Berlin on 26 June, the
objective of which is to tap the full potential of sports and ensure improved
development measures in the international cooperation with partner countries.

2nd UNOSDP Youth Leadership Camp successfully concluded
Pretoria, 16 July 2012. Eleven
successful days lie behind 26 young people from sub-Saharan Africa and the Palestinian
territories after the conclusion of the 2
nd UNOSDP Youth Leadership
Camp at the end of June at Sportschule Hennef, Germany. The participants have honed
their skills and expanded their shared knowledge on how to use sport to address
social change and promote peace.

2010 FIFA World Cup Legacy Trust has opened
Pretoria, 26 June 2012.
Applications to receive funding from the 2010 FIFA World Cupâ„¢
Legacy Trust may be submitted until 31 July 2012. Established by FIFA and the
South African Football Association (SAFA), the Legacy Trust promotes and
extends the development and reach of football within South Africa.

Making history come alive
Pretoria, 19 June 2012. On 16 June 2012, several YDF partners organised events and activities
that involved hundreds of children and youths from various communities to
celebrate Youth Day. Throughout the country, organisations made use of the
special day to bring together children and youth in workshops and tournaments in
order to honour the young people who lost their lives while standing up for
their rights in 1976.

moment has come - not merely for YDF partner organisations, governmental

Manual for Disability Inclusion piloted
Pretoria, 18 June 2012. Another
step towards the expansion of the YDF Toolkit has been taken. On the invitation
of YDF, a group of 14 participants, well versed in the area of disability inclusion
and football, successfully conducted the pilot workshop under the working title
‘YDF Manual for Disability Inclusion’.

Youth Leader Forum kicks off
Pretoria, 07 June 2012. Invited
and accompanied by YDF, a team from Altus Sport
met with Dona’s Mates in Orange Farm to share their experiences relating
to setting up a youth leader forum on Monday, 4 June. At the workshop, the two members
of the Sport for Social Change Network
(SSCN)
and the YDF partners discussed future activities, responsibilities and the

YDF mentorship programme swings into action
Pretoria, 05 June 2012. The Youth Sports for Social Development
(YSSD) organisation, a partner of the YDF project, hosted its first
YDF Coach
Course from 17 to 19 May. The Community Hall in Mamelodi East has been chosen
as the first location for the newly established mentorship programme, where
newly trained YDF instructors are accompanied by a mentor during the holding of
their first workshop.

SSCN members to participate in next UNOSDP Youth Leadership Camp

18-28 June 2012, the second Youth Leadership Camp (YLC) organised

by the
United Nations Office on Sport
for Development and Peace (UNOSDP) will take place in Hennef, Germany. As with
the first camp in January, YDF supported the applications of youth leaders from
YDF partner organisations and members of the
Sport
for Social Change Network (SSCN).

a YDF workshop on HIV/AIDS prevention in Nyanza Province, Kenya, the Society
Empowerment Project (SEP) introduces the golden term ‘SMILE’ into the work of
football and life-skills coaches.

SSCN runs Jozi
Johannesburg, 22 March 2012. Members of the
Sport for Social Change Network southern Africa (SSCN) were among the 10,000
runners reveled in the inaugural Nike Run Free. Run Jozi. 10 kilometer night
race. All runners boldly claimed back
the streets of Johannesburg on Human Rights Day, March 21
st.

Gender scores the winning goal!
Pretoria, 25 January 2012. The
first Africa-wide Gender Award of the Africa Department of the Deutsche
Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH was presented in
December 2011. With its innovative approach and endurance in promoting gender
equality, raising female participation in sport, and fostering mutual
understanding between young boys and girls, the Youth Development through
Football (YDF) project was selected as one of the four winners.
