Gauteng

In Gauteng, YDF cooperates with a variety of non-governmental organisations and also with schools in order to address pressing issues in certain communities: crime and violence, drugs, HIV/AIDS, environmental pollution and the lack of prospects for youths. Street-soccer school leagues have been started in various townships such as Mamelodi and Winterveld. At the same time, partners such as the non-governmental organisations Altus Sport Vuma, Greenfeet, Play Soccer and Karos & Kambro are implementing after-school activities that combine sports with life skills. Theatre and environmental education are well combined with football activities. YDF also partners with non-governmental organisations in Alexandra Township and in Johannesburg, where YDF cooperates with the New Nation School whose focus is on street children. Furthermore, Altus Sport Vuma has started street-soccer leagues and life-skills programmes in nine other previously disadvantaged areas around Pretoria.
