High rates of HIV infections and AIDS are prevalent in the Eastern Cape. To address these issues, YDF has supported a coalition of non-governmental organisations in developing a best practise HIV/AIDS curriculum. It has sincebeen integrated in the Mass Participation Programme of the Department of Sport, Recreation, Arts and Culture. The trained trainers will carry the message on developing healthy life skills and making healthy decisions into their communities. In 2009 the activities were extended by a Public Private Partnership between GTZ and Volkswagen South Africa. The cooperation will focus mainly on introducing life skills development including the reduction of the spread of HIV/AIDS.
