Peace Caravan

On 9 March 2009, the Rwandan capital of Kigali serves as starting point for a new Peace Caravan designed to travel the Great Lakes Region. On its way it is going to embed the countries of Burundi, Uganda, Kenya and Tanzania. This time, ‘Caravanamani’ conveys a twofold mission: It is going to animate the idea of an African FIFA Confederations Cup 2009™ and FIFA World Cup 2010™ by carrying the South African enthusiasm to these countries. At the same time Caravanamani will use football as a tool for peace building and social inclusion in Africa. World Cup ‘ambassadors’ from South Africa will join the caravan and participants of the caravan will in turn join the kick-off to the Confed Cup in South Africa in June. Alongside a number of bigwigs World Cup Mascot Zakumi will participate in Caravanamani’s Opening Ceremony.

Strong Youth, Strong Africa Tour

YDF, in partnership with Sport and Recreation South Africa will embark on a 15 day tour to its partner countries, using the power of the ball and spreading the message of youth development through football. Partner NGO's in each country will have the opportunity to present a one-day programme that will showcase the unique approach of combining football and life-skills to a broad audience. The tour kicks-off with an opening ceremony in Kigali on 1 May 2010, and reaches its conclusion in Manica, Mozambique on the 15th May 2010.
